[스타와 함께 하는 영어공부] 찰리 푸스 / 방탄소년단(BTS)

안녕하세요 구도입니다.

행복한 일요일 잘 보내셨는지요!

내일부터 다시 일상이 시작되겠지만, 우린 해야할 일이 있잖아요 ㅎ.

오늘은 좀 특별한 주제를 가져왔습니다.

주제는 바로 '셀럽 잉글리쉬'!

바로 영상 속 스타들이 쓰는 영어 문장 중 유용한 문장들을 준비해보았습니다.

과연 오늘의 스타는 누가 등장할지!

자 그럼 시작해볼까요?

1. 찰리 푸스 (Charlie Puth)

Situation #1

A   'Voicenotes' is the album that's out May 11.

Voicenotes가 5월 11일에 발매되는 앨범이죠.

B   Finally!

드디어!

C   Yeah, Sorry. I'm a perfectionist.

네, 죄송해요. 전 완벽주의자예요.

We had planned two release dates prior and it just wasn't done.

이전에 두 번이나 앨범을 내려고 계획을 했는데 완성이 아직 안 됐었어요.

And I kept adding new songs that i thought were better than the older songs,

원래 있던 곡들보다 더 좋은 곡들을 새로 계속 추가하고,

so i just kept replacing and now it's done.

계속 교체하다가 이제서야 마무리됐어요.

Now it's coming out May 11.

이제는 진짜 5월 11일 날 발매해요.

A   So how.. How do you know it was officially ready?

공식적으로 앨범을 발매해도 되겠다고 어떻게 알아요?

(*official : 공식적인)

You just... Or do you ever really know?

그냥... 알 수 있긴 한 건가요?

C   Maybe I'll never really know.

아예 모를 수도 있는 거죠.

Maybe the day it comes out I'll write something even better that i didn't expect to.

발매 날짜에 예상치 못하게 더 좋은 곡을 쓸 수도 있는거죠.

It's because when your mind is relaxed and you think that you're done,

왜냐면 다 끝났다고 생각해서 마음이 편안해지면,

(*mind : 마음, 정신)

you write better songs. That's at least the case with me.

좋은 곡이 나오게 되어있어요. 적어도 저는 그러는 편이에요.

(*at least : 적어도 / case : 경우)

But um, I think it's done. I think it sounds pretty complete.

근데 마무리한 거 같아요. 제가 듣기엔 완성된 거 같아요.

Situation #2

C   I think that nothing, literally, nothing I make is good.

제가 만드는 그 어떤 것도 좋지 않다고 생각해요.

(*literally : 말 그대로)

I still listen to 'Attention,' and I think,

아직도 'Attention'을 들으면서 생각해요,

"I should have used a different kick drum."

"아 다른 베이스 드럼을 사용할걸"

"The whole record itself could have been a little bit louder,

"음반 전체의 소리를 좀 키웠으면,

to match um, the frequencies of these other records that did really well."

잘 된 음반들과의 주파수랑 좀 맞지 않았을까."

(*frequency : 주파수, 진동수)

I'm never the man in my eyes.

저는 제 자신이 늘 성에 안 차요.

I'm never going to think that i'm the greatest record producer or the greatest singer of all time.

저는 절대로 제가 역대 최고의 음반 제작사나 가수라고 생각하지 않을 거예요.

Situation #3

A   What are your plans for 2018?

2018년도의 계획이 어떻게 돼요?

C   Plans for 2018 are to.. um..

2018년도에는..

Enjoy the release of this album,

앨범 발매를 좀 즐기고,

go on tour, tour the album,

투어 하고, 앨범 투어 좀 하고,

and uh. Who knows?

또.. 글쎄요?

Who knows what i have in my bag?

제가 뭘 계획하고 있을까요.

Who knows what's gonna happen, Korea?

한국 팬 여러분, 어떤 일이 벌어질지 누가 알겠어요?

Situation #4

A   How did that collaboration come about?

곡 콜라보는 어쩌다가 만들게 됐어요?

C   That was crazy.

대박이었어요.

So i was living at my lawyer's house and we recorded it in a closet and..

제가 제 변호사 집에서 머물렀었던 때에 옷장 속에서 녹음을 하고..

(*closet : 장롱, 옷장)

I know that sounds weird.

이상하게 들리는 거 알아요.

I was literally, I was..

제가 진짜..

A   Was the song called, 'We Don't Talk Anymore' before you went in the closet,

''We Don't Talk Anymore' 는 곡 이름이 옷장에 들어가기 전에 정해졌나요,

Or was it once you'd come out, it was we never talk again?

아니면 나온 후에 말을 하지 않기로 했나요?

"We're both young, we're both drunk, let's leave it at that."

"우리 둘 다 청춘이고 취했으니까 괜찮아." 뭐 이런 거죠.

C   Well, I was happy to work with her.

같이 작업하게 돼서 좋았어요.

She's a very nice girl.

정말 착한 친구예요.

A   I think we all hear what you're saying, Charlie.

찰리가 무슨 말 하려고 하는지 다 알아요.

Listen, don't worry about it. It's cool, it's great!

있잖아요, 걱정 안 해도 돼요. 괜찮아요, 그럴 수 있죠!

1. BTS (방탄소년단)

Situation #1

A   Speaking of the UN, and your message, what was that moment like, for you all too?

UN에서 하신 연설에 대해 말이 나와서 그러는데, 그 순간이 어땠나요? 여러분 모두에게요.

  BTS   Umm.. actually, you know, i trained for like a thousand times,

음, 사실, 그게, 거의 천 번을 연습했는데요,

like, I imagined it,

상상도 하고 그랬는데,

and I think i did it okay.

괜찮게 한 것 같아요.

Situation #2

A   You taught yourself English?

영어를 독학하신 건가요?

  BTS   Yes, I taught myself English.

네, 영어 독학했습니다.

A   How did you teach yourself English?

어떻게 독학하셨어요?

  BTS   Actually, my English teacher was a sitcom, Friends.

사실, 제 영어 선생님은 시트콤, Friends였어요.

A   Oh, you watched Friends.

오, Friends를 보셨군요.

  BTS   it's a legend.

전설이죠.

A   So was it mainly just phrases then? Or you just learned everything?

문장들 위주로 배운 건가요? 아니면 그냥 전부 그렇게 배우신 거예요?

(*phrase : 문장)

  BTS   Um, I think, you know, back in the days like when i was like 15, like 14.

어, 그게 옛날에 제가 14살, 15살 정도 됐을 때

It was quite like a syndrome for all the Korean parents to make their kids watch the Friends.

그때 한국 부모님들 사이에선 자녀들에게 Friends를 보게 하는 게 엄청 유행이었어요.

A   Really?

정말요?

  BTS   So yeah. For I thought i was kind of like a victim at that time but,

네. 그래서 그때는 제가 그 유행의 피해자라고 생각했었는데,

but right now, I'm the lucky one.

근데 지금은 오히려 그게 행운이었죠.

So like, thanks to my mother, she bought all the seasons for the DVDs.

감사하게도 저희 어머니가 모든 시즌의 DVD를 다 구매해놓으셨어요.

It got 10 DVD's right.

그럼 DVD가 10개잖아요.

She bought me. And so firstly I watched with the Korean subtitle.

그걸 사주셨어요. 그래서 첫 번째는 한글 자막 넣고 봤고요.

And then next time, I watched with the English subtitle.

그다음엔 영어 자막만 넣어서 봤고.

And then, I just removed it.

그런 다음엔 자막 없이 봤어요.

A   That's very impressive. And Friends would be very happy that you learned...

대단하신데요 정말. Friends쪽에서도 배우는 데에 도움이 됐다는 걸 알면 좋아하겠어요.

Situation #3  BTS Gives a UN Speech

BTS   We became like ghosts.

   저희는 유령이 되어버렸습니다.

   But i had one sanctuary, and that was music.

   하지만 제게는 하나의 안식처가 있었고, 그건 음악이었습니다.

   (*sanctuary : 안식처, 피난처)

   There was a small voice inside of me that said, "Wake up, man, and listen to yourself."

   제 안에 있는 작은 목소리가 제게 말해주었습니다. "야 깨어나, 네 자신한테 귀를 기울여."

   But it took me quite a long time to hear music calling my real name.

   하지만 음악이 제 진짜 이름을 부르는 것을 듣는 데까지는 꽤 오랜 시간이 걸렸습니다.

   Even after making the decision to join BTS, there were a lot of hurdles.

   방탄소년단에 합류하기로 마음을 먹은 이후에도 많은 난관이 있었습니다.

   (*hurdle : 장애물, 난관)

   Some people might not believe, but most people thought we were hopeless.

   믿지 못하시는 분들도 계시겠지만, 대부분의 사람들은 우리에게 희망이 없다고 생각했습니다.

   (*hopeless : 가망 없는, 절망적인)

   And sometimes I just wanted to quit.

   그리고 때때로는 그냥 그만두고 싶었습니다.

   But I think I was very lucky that I didn't give it all up.

   하지만 그 모든 것을 포기하지 않은 것은 정말 행운이라고 생각합니다.

오늘은 좀 특별하게 준비해보았는데요.
